This picture is of the truck that Dave Vrooman's dad used for the part time business he had. He added the tank and pump to the bed. The whole rig was painted fire engine red. He sure was proud of the job he did in building this "honey dew wagon". Not a job for everyone, but he was in need and Dave suspects visited most everyone in town at one time or another. Dave even got to go with him and help on the weekends. Does anyone remember seeing this rig around town? Someone must! Let's hear from from you. There has to be some stories out there!
an original Erie Canal Village with a distinctive concentration of nineteenth and early twentieth century architecture. During the 1830-40's and 1870-85's the Erie Canal made Jordan a principal commercial, industrial and transportation center of western Onondaga County.

At the bottom of each post you'll see "Posted by JordanNY at (time) ...to the right of the time you'll find "Comments". If anyone has posted a comment there will be a number here (if none there will be a zero). Just click the number to read the comments.

See it's very easy. Now lets get this blog cranking. Email it to your friends, neighbors and family. Blog daily, weekly , monthly, whenever you have something to say.

Old Methodist Church
Dave Vrooman found this picture he took of the Methodist Church that was on Chapel St. at Mechanic St. (almost positive of this location) when he was visiting in 1980. It is the church that his grandmother Maude Gilbert went to every Sunday. Obviously this is not the same Methodist Church that we have pictured in the Winter Scenes. What happened to this old church? Did it become more expensive to maintain / restore than replace or was it destroyed by fire or other disaster?
Can someone answer some of Dave's questions? I'm not sure why the church isn't there anymore.

Quince Street Memories
This picture was taken in the yard along Quince Street. Pictured across Quince Street is the house that Don Manchester lived in. To the left of that is the garage from the house on the corner of Quince Street and Clinton Terrace that the Solomon's owned. The maple tree is one of three that grew by our house along Quince Street. Based on the aerial map I have seen, these trees are no longer there. As far as the bike riders go, (left to right) that is Pete in the basket, Ed Vrooman (my dad) and me. This was taken a few days after my 9th birthday in August of 1951. Dave Vrooman
Hey Dave, thanks for the photo and caption! We're digging through our photo files for 1950's photos. We'll post a few in the next week.
If anyone out there has a photo, a story or whatever about Jordan come out and share it. Email them to MJDoyle@twcny.rr.com
Have a super Spring day!

Without weather...................
What would we do? It gives us much to talk about, much to complain about and every once in awhile much to be happy about!
Live report from Jordan - "the red-winged black birds are back in CNY". This is a good sign. Right?
Sick of winter in CNY? Take a vacation via the internet to Bora Bora.
have fun.......http://www.boraboraisland.com/
Dave are you out there?

The "Kissing Bridge"
One of the many beautiful settings in Jordan is the "Kissing Bridge". As you can see in the photo below the bridge follows along side the aqueduct crossing Skaneateles Creek - right thru the village. For those that may not realize the canal towpath is on top of the aqueduct.

A unique setting......
Moving to the Village of Jordan (from Old Forge, NY) at the age of sixteen could have been a traumatic experience but it wasn't. The unique setting was very welcoming as were the people. Friends from Old Forge visited on weekends and also fell in love with the village. The post office was on Main Street in the Larry Gray building (former Brace hardware-current Cornerstone Flooring) and there was an IGA near where Mickie's Shear Beautique is located today. There was a building south of the Bush Funeral home (north of the Bennett Conservatory) which is a grassy area today. Does anyone know what that building was?

Walk-way over Grand Canyon
Wow this is incredible! An indian tribe has built a glass-bottomed walk-way over the Grand Canyon. Imagine walking over the Grand Canyon looking down 4,000 feet and knowing there is only 4 inches of glass between you and the bottom of the canyon!

Village Winter Scene
Fourteen days until Spring! Well so says the tradition..... Ask an astronomer or a calendar manufacture and they will say spring begins one day earlier, March 20th, in all times zones in Northern America. In 2016 Spring will begin on March 19. Something to do with vernal equinox.......this is enough information for me but if you'd like to learn more visit www.space.com.
