Dave Vrooman found this picture he took of the Methodist Church that was on Chapel St. at Mechanic St. (almost positive of this location) when he was visiting in 1980. It is the church that his grandmother Maude Gilbert went to every Sunday. Obviously this is not the same Methodist Church that we have pictured in the Winter Scenes. What happened to this old church? Did it become more expensive to maintain / restore than replace or was it destroyed by fire or other disaster?
Can someone answer some of Dave's questions? I'm not sure why the church isn't there anymore.

Good grief!! Voices from the past. I'll have to look through my mom's photo collection for some pictures from the other end of Quince St. To answer the church question it became a matter of very expensive maintenance and lack of space. The members made the difficult decision to move the churh to the Jordan-Elbridge road almost to the corner of Whiting. It was difficult because at that time it was outside the village limits and many people believed it should stay within the village. As it turns out the village limits have since been extended and it is now "in the village".
Dave,
I'll try to make this blog known to some of the old neighborhood gang. Great to know you're out there and in touch.
