Where are you?

Hello bloggers & non-bloggers,
Dave V. is right you should all be blogging. Coming in to read is great but you aren't blogging until you leave a comment.
We know there are a lot of you coming in. Just blog once a week, once a month. The more people participating the merrier.
Share an old memory, a new experience, okay complain if you must.

It's me again with more memories of my life in Jordan along with more questions that I hope some of my previous neighbors can answer. I sure hope that my comments are not becoming boring. I will always consider Jordan as home and sincerely hope that this space on the web will become filled with a complete history of the village. I hope that some of the people that I knew will eventually check in and add their memories. I am almost positive that John Pinckney is still around town and would love to hear from him for one. How about Donald Scullion? Is he still in town?

Glad to see that you saved the picture of the best church in town for the last of the 4 churches that remain. I apologize to anyone who disagrees with my assessment of which church is best, but I was a member of this congregation and an acolyte. One of my proudest days was an Easter Sunday when I was chosen to carry the cross at the head of the procession from the parish house down the center aisle of the church to the alter. Following me was the other acolytes, Father Thurston, and the choir. "Our" church had the most wonderful stained glass windows that I have ever seen anywhere. I remember some Sundays when I was seated next to the organist in reach of a big handle that I was to use to pump air for the organ in case the power was lost to the electric blower that normally supplied its air. I do not recall ever being pressed into that role, but I was ready. I think that I got that job because I wanted to be in the choir but I could not carry a tune so became a non singing member. The choir sat right next to the organist.

When I started kindergarten they did not have room in the school building so the parish house served as classroom for that year. I am not sure if that was the only year of that situation or not. I do remember telling people that I went to church 6 days a week. The parish house had a raised stage at one end. Christmas pageants and such were presented on the stage just like a real theater. Anyway one of the girls in my class fell off the stage and broke her arm. I can't remember her name, although Patty Wicks comes to mind. Can any of you out there confirm this or supply the missing name? I have lost the name of the teacher as well even though some of the other names will never be lost. Miss Marsh, Mrs. Vogt (spelling?), Mrs. Castor, Miss Gilbert, Mrs. Bateman (and her pingpong paddle), Mrs. Bramley (librarian), and of course Mr. Ramsdell the principal. People that were part of my life are now those that things are named after.

How can pictures be sent for publication on these pages? I did not see any way to attach a picture to these comments or to e-mail. Is there another address to use to e-mail attachments?

While the village is buried in snow it seems to me to be the perfect time to drag out those memories and send them in! Remember those party lines? Through the marvels of modern electronics we have them back. How many can we get connected to this one?

The Methodist church that is pictured in the Village Winter Scenes is not the same church that I remember my grandmother going to on Sundays. I remember it being on Mechanic Street near Beaver Street, or at least in that area. What happened to that building? Did it burn or was it just replaced by a new church in a new location?

The kindergarten teachers name was Mrs Shaw, or it may have been Mrs Vought. One did the pre-school in Dellings house and the other did Kindergarten, I don't remember which was which.
Pat Wickes still lives in the area, Skaneateles to be exact, however I remember Don Wells falling and breaking his arm in Kindergarten. Maybe they both did?
Don and Paul Scullion still live in the area but I haven't seen either of them in a couple of years at least.

When I went to school there it was kindergarten thru 12th. I only went from K-to half of 2nd. I use to get into trouble for talking in class, and being the rebellious child that I was spent time with tape over my mouth and at the front of the class. I was Baptised at Christ Church by Father Thurston, in 1956.
