Where is the warmth?

A little taste of summer and now to "unseasonably" low temperatures. Only in CNY. Ya' gotta' love it. Enough whining.

Okay-when adding a new comment lets try to add it on the most recent post. This way it will be in the first or second at the top of the page. Noting what post you are referencing would be a great help to all readers. Something like this - RE Memorial Day Memories....then put your comments.

We'll get over this confusion.

I have to tell you that I have spoken to other bloggers and they tell me that even though the Jordan blog doesn't have a lot of bloggers yet it is very active compared to many.

Keep up the great job Jordan Bloggers. We are having fun and learning.

Maureen, John, I and the others who have left comments so far will keep this going if need be, but it sure would be nice to hear from the rest of you.

How about trying to find out who has strayed the farthest from the nest. So far it is me here in Oregon. Where did the rest of you end up? From looking at the satellite photos there appears to be a lot of empty spaces left in Jordan.

If you go to this link:

http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&where1=Jordan%20NY

and click on birds eye view you can see the whole village with amazing clarity. I am not sure how long ago these pictures were taken, but I suspect that they are recent. The view from the North shows that Patterson's store has been torn down but it is still standing when viewed from the other three directions. When was it torn down?

I bet they found all kinds of interesting treasures from the early days when they were tearing that store down. What did they find?

John:

Did you see my last comment under We're back....? Did I get the name of your dog right?

Re: "Where is the warmth"

Oregon is going to be tough to beat, distance wise. Sandy and I got as far away as Florida for a couple of years, but ended up back in the Jordan area. I do have a son who has gotten all the way to Alaska, which gives us a reason to visit that amazing state.

Dave, you are right about good old Spike. I had forgotten the collar episode, you're memory's not so bad either.

Talk about parallels. My wife, Kathy and I met and were married in Miami, Florida. We lived there for about a year that time before moving to Michigan. We went back about 10 years later and lived on Big Pine Key (about 30 miles form Key West) for another 2 years. We planned on staying but increasing property taxes drove us out. A regular working man just can't afford to live there. That is when we came out here.

We have visited 49 states together with Alaska being the only one left. We are planning an inside passage cruise from Seattle to Alaska in the summer of 2008. That will make all 50 in 29 years together.

Is your wife Sandy from Jordan?

Re:Where is the Warmth
Sandy is (or technically was) Canadian, she has since become an American citizen. Her dad was in the RCAF and she lived all over Canada before coming to Syracuse when her dad was in charge of the NORAD station that used to be there at Hancock. They lived in Farimount. I met her on a blind date in 1963 and we got married in 1966.
We were just down in the Keys (Marathon Key) in March and I have to agree, I would live there in a minute if it wouldn't be so darned expensive.

Re: Where is the warmth?

Does anybody remember the name of the man that had a team of horses and delivered around the village? Walt Corser comes to mind. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am almost sure that it was him and his horses that delivered ice for our ice box. I think that the ice was stored in the lower level of the Higgs building or he kept his horses there. I remember seeing the horses and wagon on the path between that building and the canal wall many times as well as watching him and his horses making their way up Clinton Terrace and Quince Street.

There must be a picture or two of what must have been about the last team of horses and wagon to be part of the village scene.

How is the picture search coming along?

Re: Where is the warmth?

Does anyone know if any Jordanites have web pages that give any history of Jordan? The Erie Canal Museum does not have a web page that I have been able to find. Are there any plans to build an historical site for Jordan? I bet the Lincoln cannon ball would generate a lot of interest!

RE: Where is the Warmth?

That man was Carl Corser. Walt was his son who was killed with "Grump" Plantz in an accident on Rt 5 down near Camillus back in the the late fifties.
One thing I remember very well was that Carl's horses left plenty of "road apples" all over the streets and they made great ammunition in our many skirmishes. Of course they had to be the right age, the brand new ones tended to be a little too moist to handle without kind of an "ick" feel.
