Help is needed! What is the total story behind the Lincoln cannon ball in Jordan?
We've heard many stories but are hoping to get the real deal.
If you know the story but aren't comfortable getting on the blog
just yet email the story to mjdoyle@twcny.rr.com
The NYS Canal System is not opening on schedule. Flooding on the Seneca River west of Cross Lake is at 7.1 feet ABOVE summer navigation (according to state readings). Probably the worst flooding on the canal system at this time. Wonder how flooding will affect the Northeast American Carp Tournament in Baldwinsville the week of May 16th. Check it out at www.AmericanCarpSociety.com

Right you are, Carl is the man with the team. I wonder why Walt came to mind. He was not near our age I don't think.
I think that the king of the road apples was Joey Case. It is reported that he ate one that was on that path down behind the Higgs building. His other claim to fame was that he was the first to cross the old cemetery at night. He lived next to my grandmother up on Hamilton Street and had to get home from over near our houses. On a dare he took the short cut through the cemetery, but said he crawled on his knees to keep from being spotted.
Is he still around? I think that he was a year older than we were. His father, as I remember was a guard at the prison in Auburn.

Is there local flooding as well? I am wondering if the "kissing bridge" is flooded as well? How about a picture?
Jordan was incorporated in 1835. That means that there are over a hundred and seventy years of stories to be told. How about it story tellers? It sure would be great to have them all in one place for everyone to read. Maybe Maureen could eventually publish this blog as a complete history of the village of Jordan.
Re: Where is the Warmth?
Dave,
Yes, Walt was quite a bit older than you and I. He drove that Porsche convertible, the first one I ever saw. His sister Gwen resettled in Jordan after she retired from her job with the State in Albany.
I think Joe Case lives in Indiana now, he left Jordan about 20 years ago. I believe he's a chiropractor. He's married to Lynne Meixner, don't know if you remember her! He and I were on the village board together for a while.
I can remember walking home from the pool in the evening. If it was too close to being dark we never took the short route through the old Quince St cemetery, much too creepy!
