Jordan newspaper

Does anyone remember the Jordan leader? Published weekly from 1927-1972.
I was fortunate to pick up the Jordan Leader 1949 which is a hard-bound book that has every issue of the Jordan Leader in 1949. It's really interesting because for those that do not know the Jordan Fall Festival began in 1949.

Maybe we can get some Jordanites from www.Classmates.com to post on this blog.

Thanks to Dave and John the blog has been interesting.
Dave has posted a new comment under Views of Jordan.

I sure do remember the Jordan Leader. Somewhere I still have a clipping of the news item my mother sent in telling about my joining the Navy back in 1960 along with my address, although it was wrong. It says USNYC instead of USNTC, maybe that is why I never heard from anyone. She subscribed to the newspaper after we moved out here so that she could keep up with Jordan and the local goings on.
The paper published the news from each grade in school. It was fun to see your name in the paper along with how well you did on a test.
I would think that the 1949 book you have should have my name as doing well in school. It would be interesting to see some of the articles posted in this blog and especially some of the pictures.

Is there anyplace on line that the Jordan Leader can be read? What a great history of Jordan that would be. I wonder if the Jordan Museum has back issues of this paper?

How many people in Jordan have computers or access to the internet? Let's take roll call, sign in and add your story.

Who remembers the gay 90 shows in the high school auditorium or Saturday, at least I think it was Saturday, afternoon movies. Does anyone know for sure what day it was? They always had a serial running along with the feature film. I remember Tarzan falling to his certain death from a cliff as the reel ended. We had to wait until the next week to find out if he would survive or not. He always did.

Those shows were the highlight of the winter social season and people from all walks of the community paticipated. I think there was a different theme every year but, like Dave, the one I remember best was the gay 90's show. Maybe that was the theme more than once. I think they were usually held in the high school gym.
The movies were quite a treat too and if I remember correctly, quite a bargain......FREE! Some of those "cliff hanger" serials we watched with great anticipation were pretty corny by today's standards and I also seem to remember that we got through very few shows without some sort of major problem with the projector, but it didn't matter. We were out of our parents hair for a little while and having a great time.
