Rested up and ready for....

The Jordan Fall Festival.

There are some new comments posted on different posts. Check them out. Some former residents are sharing their memories. We are looking for photos from the 50's. If you have some please email them in.

Village Historian Jack Horner and the Jordan Historical Society both have tons of photos. I could certainly go there and get bunches of photos, scan them and post them. The problem is I really don't have the time to do that. It is much less time consuming if someone could email some in. I will try to get to the historical society but can't guarantee anything especially now that we are into Festival season.

It's a small world.
I was recently in Alaska and got to talking with our bus driver. She said that she was originally from New York, and being a native of Jordan, I asked her where in the state she was from. Turns out that she was from Weedsport, although she has been in Alaska for over 50 years. She mentioned coming over to the Fall Festival and asked me if I was ever involved with putting outhouses on the downtown corners of Jordan. Her husband was apparently was one of the perpetrators. Her sister still lives in the Jordan area and her kids went to the Jordan-Elbridge high school. Hard for her to believe that two schools that were such "enemies" are now combined under one roof.

Where are all you good people that once called, or still call Jordan home. Post your comments here. Make Miss Gilbert proud of your writing ability.

Jordan-Elbridge Central School has officially existed since 1962 so most people in the area do not remember what Jordan vs Elbridge athletic events were like and can not imagine the intensity with which they were approached. School letters ('J' or 'E') were burned in the opponents football fields and to say that the games sometimes got a bit uncivilized is a gross understatement
The basketball games were a cheerleader's dream. You talk about audience response....when Elbridge was the visiting team you could hear the noise up at the four corners in Jordan. Of course the intensity level sometimes got a little too high. I can remember some pretty impressive brawls, with audience participation I might add!

Speaking of brawls, does the historical society have any pictures of the boxing matches that took place during the Fall Festival when Carmen Basillio was the referee for the matches between us (then) grade school boys. I would love to see some of them posted here. I think that John Pinckney and I were one bout, and he was the winner. I think that Barney Knoblock was the photographer.
