No anger zone!

One of the special beauties about this blog is that we don't allow anger.

We're working on photo albums. Quite a task...finding the photos, scanning, sizing, naming. We will surprise you one day soon and have one up for viewing.

To all you folks out there reading this blog----If you aren't comfortable posting a comment that's fine BUT please forward the blog onto your friends and family.

What would you like to hear about?

I hope that the Jordan Historian is out there and can help me. The house that I grew up in at 7 Clinton Terrace (Corner of Clinton Terrace and Quince Streets) was built in about 1859, according to information that my father found in the house. It was a very fancy house with stained glass windows and ornate trim. The property was in the middle of the village but had a large barn that seemed to be for sheltering horses.

Can you tell me anything about the origin of this house and its owners. Were they a wealthy family that kept teams of horses for their carriages. I have always wondered about this but never got an answer.

Any information and or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Won't be long now until a whole lot of splashing will be heard up there on Brutus Road. Is it my imagination or has the pool been reduced in size from what it was back in the early days?

I am not sure if it was the first year that the pool was open or a subsequent year but there was a problem getting it ready to open as scheduled. Swimming lessons had already been set up and as I remember they had to have a certain number of hours to be able to certify us kids as completing the Red Cross requirements for a specific qualification such as polliwog or some such level of expertise. Dr. Whiteley had a swimming pool behind his house just north of the canal and he let the village use his pool for lessons until the Memorial Pool was ready. I always thought that that was something special for him to have done for us kids. Of course he was responsible for a great number of us being there to begin with. He was "our" doctor. Of course in the fall when I went into the gym and saw him sitting there with my shot record and a tray full of needles, I was not interested in getting anywhere close to him.

Didn't the pool have two diving boards? I remember taking swimming lessons and diving lessons. With competitions.
